Dr. Rajesh Patel, D.O. - Director of Medical Aesthetics, Sage Hair Clinic

Dr. Rajesh Patel, D.O. is a Board Certified Family Medicine physician with specialized training in medical aesthetics and hair restoration. He founded Sage Hair Clinic on a principle that shapes every aspect of the practice: that the right answer in hair restoration starts with understanding the patient, not with selling a procedure.

Training and Credentials

Dr. Patel holds a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Over more than two decades of primary care practice, he has also held medical leadership roles spanning hospice care, population health, and event medicine, including as a board member of the Hackensack Meridian Health ACO and as event physician for two Super Bowls, the FIFA World Cup, and NFL and NBA games. He has also spent over 20 years training the next generation of clinicians, having taught more than 1,000 medical students, residents, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students.

Dr. Patel transitioned into hair restoration medicine in early 2025. He trained directly under Dr. Miguel Canales, former Medical Director of Restoration Robotics and a pioneer of the ARTAS Robotic System, on ARTAS Robotic FUE technique, along with manual and NeoGraft-assisted FUE. He is certified in hair restoration by Arizona Aesthetics, in Alma TED by Alma, and in PRP and injectable hair restoration by Empire Medical Training. Since transitioning to hair restoration, he has also provided physician oversight for the launch of six hair restoration centers nationally, with several more in development.

At each Sage Hair Clinic location, a trichologist on our clinical team conducts each patient’s initial evaluation in person — including a magnified scalp analysis using a handheld microscope to assess hair density, follicle miniaturization, and donor area quality. Dr. Patel then personally reviews every case identified as a strong candidate — checking for contraindications, assessing donor and recipient area for surgical candidates, and evaluating scalp and follicle health for non-surgical and regenerative options. He makes the final clinical determination on every treatment plan.

Why Hair Restoration

Hair loss runs in Dr. Patel’s family. Every male relative older than him — his father, his older brother, his uncles, his cousins — lost their hair early, and he assumed it was his fate too. In his twenties, while still a medical student and resident, his own hair began thinning the same way. Treatment wasn’t financially realistic at the time, so years passed without addressing it — enough time that his own follicles are now past what regenerative treatment can restore, and his donor area is too limited for a transplant of his own.

That experience shapes how he practices today. Twenty years in primary care taught him to recognize the toll a medical condition takes on a patient’s daily life. In hair restoration, that empathy is personal — he has lived the same struggle his patients bring to every consultation.

Dr. Patel's Approach

Every patient begins with an in-person consultation with a trichologist at their Sage Hair Clinic location, including a magnified scalp analysis using a handheld microscope. Patients identified as strong candidates, and who want to move forward, are then evaluated personally by Dr. Patel. He reviews the full case — ruling out contraindications, analyzing donor and recipient area for surgical candidates, and assessing follicle health and growth pattern for non-surgical and regenerative options. Patients leave understanding exactly why a particular treatment plan is right for them, not just what it involves.
